Armed policemen and soldiers this morning shut down the Kogi State House of Assembly, as the leadership crisis in the House took a turn for the worse.
According to reports, the security personnel were implementing an ‘instruction from above’.
While this action was ongoing, the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello was at the Presidential villa paying a courtesy call to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Kogi Police Commissioner, Besan Gwana said he directed his men to secure the assembly complex following intelligence reports that some hoodlums were planning to wreck havoc in the place.
“We got information that some people are coming there to vandalise things at the assembly. That was why we sent our men there to secure the place. It is for security reason,” he said.
Five members of the 20 man Assembly announced on Tuesday they had impeached the Speaker, Momoh Jimoh Lawal. Momoh disputed the legality of the action.
