Indications are emerging that residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital may soon experience another round of fuel scarcity.

This follows the non availability of petroleum products in some filling stations as well as long queues in filling stations selling the products.

The situation is that most of the filling stations in the old Port Harcourt township, Rumuodamaya, headquarters of Obio-Akpor axis, Eliozu, Eligbolo and Airport road, Rukpokwu on the outskirts of the city lack the products.

Some of the motorists waiting to buy fuel spoke about their frustrations getting the community.

Some of the filling station managers blamed the looming scarcity of products on alleged diversion of petroleum products in Rivers State to other states where they can make more profit due to non compliance with selling at the official pump price of N86.50 per litre.

In some of the Petrol stations where products are sold it has jumped to N120 per litre.

Black marketers are having a field day. They sell five litres for as much as N1,500.

Sunny Nkpe, boss of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN Eastern zone, urged motorists in the zone to bear the current inconveniences pending when Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, would regularize supply to marketers.

Although intracity transport fares are still stable, there is the probability of it going up anytime soon.
