Four sent to prison over malicious damage

Operatives of the X-Squad of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, western Nigeria, have arraigned four suspects before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court, Lagos for allegedly willfully damaging a property while armed with firearms.

The were also accused of inflicting injuries on the owner of the property, Seriki Ayodeji.

The police identified the accused persons as Okedeji Taiwo, 44, Kunle Taiwo, 22, Segun Taiwo, 55, Kazeen Moyosoye, 37, and Ramota Akinyemi, 38.

The accused persons were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on malicious damage to property, assult occasioning harm and display
of firearms in the public without lawful authority.

Police prosecutor, ASP Henry Obiazi, informed the court in charge No.L/02/2016 that the accused persons committed the offence on 19 November, 2015 at Odofun village, near Ikorodu, Lagos.

Obiazi told the court that the accused persons armed themselves with fire arms, invaded the property belonging to Seriki Ayodeji and destroyed it on the ground that the property belongs to them, a claim Obiazi said the accused persons knew to be false.

He said the accused persons in the ensuing commotion, assaulted Seriki Ayodeji, Babatunde Ganiyu Ayodeji, Jamiu Moda Odediran and Dauda Ojediran and inflicted injuries on them.

Obiazi noted that the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409, 171,348, 56(1)(a)(b) and 51 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court.

Magistrate Mrs. A. T. Omoyele, admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum and she adjourned the case till 21 January, 2016 for mention.

All the defendants were taken to Ikoyi and Kirikiri prisons, Lagos pending when they will fulfill their bail conditions.
