Ranking member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, has reconsidered her earlier stand to reject her appointment as the chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC.

Indications that she had finally accepted the job first came on Monday when the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, announced on the floor of the House that Tejuosho would be representing the Assembly at the launch of the Lagos State Laws of 2015 by Governor Ambode as the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary.

Tejuosho, who was present at the sitting did not raise objection thus confirming the reports she had finally succumbed to pressure to reconsider her stand.

For the first time since the inception of the eighth Assembly, Tejuosho also walked up to the Speaker’s position for a brief discussion during plenary.

Also on Tuesday, Tejuosho gave a report of what transpired at the event which she said she attended in her capacity as the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC.

The lawmaker spoke excitedly informing the House that she attended the event with other members of the committee and the committee’s secretariat.

According to her, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode commended the House for being very vibrant.

At one of the sittings in November this year, Speaker Obasa had suddenly read the list of chairmen of committees of the House mentioning Tejuosho as the chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Public Petitions, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC.

In a dramatic twist, just as the Speaker announced he was rising from his seat, Tejuosho took the microphone denouncing her committee and insisting that she refused to be part of it.

She however did not explain what she meant.

The matter however, elicited responses from her colleagues in the next sitting, when the lawmaker representing Ajeromi/Ifelodun Constituency 1 at the Assembly, Dayo Famakinwa, who is a member of he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told the House that he needed to be educated if it was right for a lawmaker to reject the position of committee chairmanship against the rule of the Speaker.

Those, who spoke at that sitting condemned Tejuosho’s action and suggested that she should apologise for what they termed an insult on the House.

Tejuosho, while apologising for the way she rejected the committee chairmanship, told the lawmakers that she had no apology for rejecting the committee.

She also argued that there were no known rules on rejection of committees.
