The Inspector-General of Police (I-GP), Mr Solomon Arase, on Thursday admonished all police commands across the country against illegal detention of suspects.

Arase gave the warning while addressing officers and men during a visit to the command in Gusau.

He asked the command to deploy more of intelligence gathered in tracking and arresting suspects.

“For the police to continue to earn public trust and respect, we must continue to evolve more ways of fair play and justice in all our dealings.

“Police must carry out an efficient investigation before inviting a suspect.

“Intelligence-led policing is now the most recognised way of handling cases by the police.

“This is also translating into better relationship between the police and members of the public.’’

Arase urged all commands to establish more linkages with unions and associations within their domains for effective flow of information.

“If you create a good and effective information flow channel, it will be difficult for criminals to operate’’, he said.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olufemi David thanked the I-GP for his support to the command.

He said the special attention the command was receiving from the force headquarters had helped to curtail the activities of criminals in the state.
