Accident: Obasanjo thanks Nigerians, says he's hale and hearty

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has confirmed that his vehicle had a burst tyre along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway.

And he thanked Nigerians for their show of concern about his welfare.

The former President declared that he is hale and hearty and presently in Abidjan, Cote d’voire, where he led observers to the Presidential election, which held yesterday.

The former President in a release signed by his Media aide, Vitalis Ortese, said he was “indeed involved in an incident on the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, after Sagamu interchange, while he was on his way to join in the celebrations of the 80th birthday anniversary of Sir Kessington Adebutu at Tinubu Methodist Church, Lagos.

“The vehicle, he was traveling in suffered a burst left tyre at the rear and swerved several times, but did not hit any curb or any car in front or behind until it did a 180 degree turn and faced where it was coming from and he had to change vehicles”,the statement said.

It was gathered that the former President, left for Cote D’ivoire, after attending the birthday programme and was in high spirit, preparing for the elections, until he started receiving calls from family members, friends and associates expressing concern about his welfare.

“President Olusegun Obasanjo wishes to convey his deep appreciation to all those, who by way of calls, personal messages and prayers and indeed members of the general public, who have shown overwhelming concern about his welfare.”

“The incident occurred on Saturday, few hours after attending a memorial service to mark the 10th year remembrance of his late wife and former First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

“The memorial service, held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, drew attendance across the length and breath of the country, particularly from the Abebe family, where the late wife hailed from in Delta state.”
