Lawmaker, police partner over cult clashes, crime reduction in Mushin

The perennial clashes between cult gangs and increasing crime rate in Mushin area of Lagos Statre, western Nigeria, will soon be a thing of the past, as a Lagos lawmaker and the State Police Command are collaborating on strategies to stem the menace.

The lawmaker, Olayiwola Sobur Olawale, who stated this, stressed that the move became imperative enable the community take pride of place in the state.

Speaking at an interactive session with members of Zodiac Club of Nigeria, Olawale who represents Mushin Constituency 2, assured that the strategy would achieve positive result.

He pointed out that the crime rate in the area coupled with incessant clashes between cultists, which had led to the death of many people have given the community a bad name.

Olawale also disclosed that plans are already at advance stage by all stakeholders in Mushin including the traditional leaders to collaborate in organising a joint carnival at ensuring peace in the area and unanimously launch an attack against crime.

Part of this approach, he said would include an empowerment programme that is tailored towards reorientating and refocusing the youths from crime and criminality.

His words: “ I have been meeting regularly with the police chiefs at both the area command and state headquarters and soonest we would come out with a strategy on how to end the perennial inter cultists gang clashes and reduce crime rate in Mushin. Though I wouldn’t want to disclose the strategy for security reasons, I can assure you that the result will be positive.”
Also speaking at the occasion, chairman of the club Mr. Tunde Adio identified lack of adequate mentoring and right guidance as factors responsible for youth involvement in social vices.

He added that parents should be held responsible for the involvement of their children in the act, noting that most parents abdicate their parental responsibility.

He stressed that social vices would continue to be on the increase until societal values are inculcated in the youth including their reorientation.
