Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Sunday whipped El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 5-0 in a week 25 match of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure saw three Sunshine Stars players – Paul Onobi, Prince Aggreh and Tunde Adeniji – getting on the score sheet.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Onobi got the first goal of the match in the 30th minute, through a header to a corner kick.
He added the second, also from a corner kick in the 54th minute, before Aggreh scored in the 65th and 90th minutes.
Adeniji took his tally as the top scorer in the ongoing season to 13 goals by scoring in the 85th minute for the Owena Waves.
Sunshine Stars have now scored 41 goals in 25 matches in the current campaign, more than any other club in the league.
Kennedy Boboye, Coach of Sunshine Stars FC, in a post-match interview with newsmen, hailed his side’s performance in the game.
Boboye said his side would now be looking towards their next league match against Wikki Tourists, hoping to record their second away win.
“The fact that we have seven of our players invited to the national teams’ camps will not affect our preparation for the game though.
`The rules say when you have more than five players in the national camp, your next game will be postponed.
“However, at any time the team will be playing, some of the players will be released to us,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Sunshine Stars now have 46 points from 25 matches to return to the top of the league.
