The Cross River State House of Assembly has approved Governor Ben Ayade’s request to engage 35 Special Advisers to constitute his cabinet.

The governor’s request was contained in a letter dated 29th June 2015, and endorsed by secretary to the state government, Mrs. Tina Agbor.

While approving the request in Calabar, the House urged the governor to ensure the exercise conforms to section 14 of the amended 1999 constitution as it regards the principle of federal character; as applicable in the state level.

Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. John Gaul Lebo, said the parliament’s action was predicated on section 196 of the amended 1999 constitution that authorizes it to approve such appointments.

He charged the special advisers to work assiduously with the governor in order to actualise his plan for Cross River state.

The speaker explained that the special advisers who are expected to head some departments and agencies in the state, would occasional be made to face the lawmakers in order to defend their actions.
