Pilgrimage to Jerusalem has always been for religious purpose, but in a bid to maximise the benefits of the exercise, the National Christians Pilgrims Commission recently entered into a partnership with the Isreali government, to establish an exchange programme that will focus on robust agricultural production and farm practices.

The activities of the Ogun State Pilgrims Welfare Board in capitalising on this partnership is worthy of commendation. The board has included a week empowerment training for youth in the July 2015 pilgrimage programme.

The empowerment programme for the youth will include intense training in Agriculture, Agro -Allied management and other relevant skills. At the end of the training they will be issued a training certificate by the Hebrews University which will conduct the training.

Aside the primary  benefits of  moral and spiritual benefits which the pilgrimage offers, this exercise will make the  youths self-reliant, economically independent and empower them to contribute their own quota to the diversification and improvement of the economic base of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

It is expected that well-meaning individuals and organisations should support the Board by sponsoring more youths to this pilgrimage as a means of contributing their quota to the development of the state.
