Niger State Governor, Aliyu Babangida, has reportedly paid members of the Niger state House of Assembly outstanding allowances to stave off the plan to remove him from office.

According to Punch, each member of the house got N17million, about $85,000 dollars each.

Governor Aliyu has also promised to meet the other demands of the legislators.

The immediate impact of the payment is that the impeachment move against the governor has been halted.

“It was not as if the governor bribed us, it is our legal entitlements and we have a right to ask for it before the expiration of our tenure. We have been paid and calm has returned to the assembly complex,” said one of the members of the house.
