Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara was on Sunday re-elected for a second term after defeating 15 other candidates at the just concluded House of Assembly and Governorship Election in the state.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Musbau Akanji, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as winner, having fulfilled all conditions.

Musbau said Ahmed polled 295,832 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen. Simeon Ajibola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 115,220 votes

According to Akanji, Gov. Ahmed has the highest number of votes cast in the election and the highest votes in all the 16 local government areas of the state.

He said for a candidate to emerge a winner, he must score the highest number of votes and has 25 per cent in at least two third of the local government areas.

The Labour party (LP) candidate, Dr Mike Omotosho, came third with 2,973 votes.

Akanji said I,171,561 voters registered in the state while 455,397 were accredited for the governorship election.

He said there were 419,633 valid votes while 14,721 were rejected and 434,354 were cast in the election.

The scores as announced by the INEC returning officer showed that Governor Ahmed won in all the 16 local government areas of the state as shown below:
