Fashola Declares Methodist Synod Open

All is now set for the 9th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos West. The 4-day event coming up at Methodist Church Nigeria, Idimu, Mushin, Lagos will kick off on Thursday, 19 March with the Ministerial and Lay Sessions.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola is expected to declare the synod open on Friday, 20 March, while the Synod programme will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 22 March at the same venue during the 10.00am service.

The theme for this year’s Synod, “ Aglow with the Spirit” has been prayerfully selected to reassure the citizenry on a great turn around spritually that God will do concerning Nigeria.

According to the Chief Host of the Synod, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Oluyemisi Ogunlere, “the promise of God to us as a nation and the whole world in general is to bring a total stoppage to all the calamities in our land, all natural disasters and self destructions around us and ultimately turn all our challenges to opportunities if we allow the holy spirit to take control of our lives as his beloved children .

“As Methodist, we’ve challenged ourselves to take a position on how best we can move forward with the holy spirit by adding value to our immediate societies by bringing it to the front burner at this year’s Synod of the Diocese and pray for peace and togetherness among nations all over the world.”

According to the Lay President of the Diocese, Otunba Morakinyo Hanson, “this year’s Synod which is the 9th edition in the history of the Diocese is expected to attract notable personalities within and outside the Methodist family to be led by His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Uche, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria amongst others.” The Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos West Diocese was adjudged the best diocese out of the 56 dioceses in the whole Methodist Church Nigeria at the 42nd and 7th Biennial Conference that took place at  Methodist Theological Institute, Mission Hill, Umahia, Abia State in 2010.
