Broadcaster Gabovies Floats Radio, TV Stations

Veteran broadcaster and former Chief Cameraman of the Nigerian Television (NTV) now Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Pa Ganiyu Bolaji Davies, will soon join the league of radio and television station owners in Nigeria.

Davies made the disclosure during the celebration of his 81st birthday anniversary last weekend.

While still awaiting approval from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the foremost cinematographer disclosed further that all is set for the grand take-off of both stations to be known as ‘Radiovision’ and sited in Ojodu area of Lagos State.

He added that the best of broadcast equipment have been procured in readiness for NBC’s final nod.

Born in Epe, Lagos State, Bob Davies as he is fondly called and currently the Chairman, Gabovies Oil and Gas Company and Lagosogun Mineral and Farm Resources Limited based in Ojodu, Lagos, participated in the production of the first movie in Nigeria, Dinner With The Devil and Eddy Ugbomah’s Rise And Fall Of Dr. Oyenusi, among others, as Director of Photography in 1975 and 1978.

Also as NTV’s chief cameraman between 1962 and 1978, he covered many important national assignments for the station among which were Nigeria’s admission to the United Nations, the historic treasonable trial of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1962-1963), maiden flight of the Nigeria Airways’ first VC10 aircraft between Lagos and London and the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970), to mention a few.
