The Federal Government on Tuesday announced that it would establish rail line on Katsina-Kano and Katsina-Sokoto-Kauranamoda-Birninkebbi routes to enhance business activities in the North-West area of the country.

Vice President Namadi Sambo disclosed this in Katsina while addressing people in the state during Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign.

Sambo said that the establishment of the rail line would ease transportation of people and goods within the zone and across the country, adding that it would also reduce high cost of transportation currently borne by the people.

According to him, the development will encourage social cohesion and unity among Nigerians.

He also said that the government had awarded contract for the dualisation of Kano-Katsina road.

The project, he said, would also boost socio-economic activities, especially in the two states.

Sambo said President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration had given the zone top political positions, including Vice President, Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser and Inspector-General of Police.

He therefore called on the electorate in the state to return Jonathan as president by voting for the PDP in Feb.14 election.

He also appealed to the people to vote for all PDP candidates contesting various elective positions.
