Last time we looked into persuasions skills, we examined the priorities and needs of different personality types and how to effectively sell our ideas and services to each other. Today we are starting how to read people we shall call the tips ‘Read people Guide’ (This guide is published with the kind permission of personality insights Inc) when for instance you are meeting someone for the first time what are the tell tales that reveal to you the personality style of whom you are meeting with Today we shall look at the D personality style and the I personality style.

The D personality types more than any other, knows how to keep short account. They may seem harsh in speaking bluntly, but they simply want to get to the bottom line as quickly as possible. They do not hold grudges as long as progress is being made.

The D personality type is not afraid of tough assignment, likes competition; they handle pressure well and seek individual accomplishment. They become very uncomfortable when things remain the same too long.

The D personality demand a lot from themselves and others. They know how to focus on end results relying strongly on themselves and their ability to stick with the job until their desired outcome is achieved. They are very self-sufficient. They would rather lead than follow.

Now to guide to reading a D…….Their verbal or vocal tones states more than asks, they talk more than listens, they are primarily verbal not written. They make strong statements, they are blunt and to the point. They use forceful tones and communicate readily they are not afraid to speak out.

The conversation or speech patterns of the D.  Their speech is limited… sometimes not even a hello, they attempt to direct the conversation, they use directives tones and are abrupt under stress they may become aggressive or defensive. They often engaged in doing another activity during a conversation.

Their outward visual body language,- firm handshake, steady eye contact if they are interested, gestures to emphasize points, – finger pointing. They display impatience, fast moving body language and they dislike being casually touched.

They have full calendars, they keep pressure-cooker schedule, frequently they look at their watch and their eyes shifts or gaze elsewhere also they make phone calls while speaking with you. The I personality style loves social contact, people are their life! Whether with one person or a large crowd, they enjoy constantly being with others. They are not very good with details and tend to seek freedom from control. However, healthy accountability is very paramount to their future success. They are friendly, carefree and outgoing, often exhibiting more confidence than ability. An I personality can meet total strangers and in just a few minutes make them feel at home.

They usually have a wide range of friends, young and old, crossing all socioeconomic levels. Their optimistic spirit makes them fun to be with and their happy disposition helps them get along with almost everyone.

The I love to be in the center of a lot of activities. They are involved in many organizations, clubs or groups-wherever they will gain attention. They dress, behave and function basically to call attention to themselves in one way or the other

Guide to reading a I, their verbal tone….they tell stories, share personal feelings, express opinions readily they are dramatic and high volume. Their conversation or speech patterns they talk and listen in feeling terms, they are uncomfortable with people who use sophisticated thinking words. Often they are distracted with things happening around them.

Their outward visual body language they engage in much hand and body movement, they are contact-oriented, spontaneous in their actions, energetic, poised and charming, and they are personable, often they look distracted.

Clues you can look out for at their office or workplace. The décor reflects open lively atmosphere, it may appear cluttered or disorganized, you will see notes posted on the wall with little apparent rhyme or reason. The furnishing indicates warmth and contact often with extra couch or table to accommodate conversation. Also they are flashy and trendy with fun pictures and finally they like to do things the fun way. Next time we shall be looking at the S, and the D, personality styles.
