14th Governor's Cup: Nigerian Girl Qualifies For Final

P.M.NEWS Sports can report that for the first time in recent time, a Nigerian female tennis player will be playing in the final of the annual Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.

Youngster Sarah Adegoke is on the verge of making history in the tournament as she will be playing in the Women’s Singles final of the 14th edition of the Governor’s Cup against tournament’s top seed, Zarah Razafinmahatratra of Madagascar on Saturday.

Adegoke defeated compatriot Aanu Aiyegbusi  6-4 (retired),  while Razafinmahatratra beat Nigerian Christie Agugbom  in straight set of 6-1, 6-2 in the semi final played Friday afternoon.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola will declare the tournament closed tomorrow at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan. Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, said the Local Organising Committee, LOC, is expecting a full house during the final ceremony.

In the Men’s Doubles final to be decided later today, Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Clifford Enosoregbe, who lost his quarter-final match to Moses Michael, will partner Dauda Ndiaye from Senegal to battle Takanyi Garanganga and Duncan Mugabe from Zimbabwe and Uganda respectively.

Madagascar’s Zarah Razafinmahatratra and Nigeria’s Sarah Adegoke will slug it out with Christie Agugbom and Blessing Samuel both from Nigeria in the Women’s Doubles final which will also be decided later today.

In the Men’s Singles semi final, giant killer, Sylvester Emmanuel takes on another strong opponent, Moses Michael, while Monday Igbinovia will try to stop Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe.

Razafinmahatratra will lock horns with Christie Agugbom, while Adegoke will play against Aanu Aiyegbusi in the other semi-final clash of the Women’s Singles.
