A student at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has been put into isolation at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, (ABUTH) for displayed some symptoms of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

Dr Thot Dogo, Kaduna state Commissioner for Health confirmed that the hospital authorities alerted the ministry when they suspected that the 19-year old, an undergraduate of ABU, started exhibiting symptoms of the deadly virus. He stated that he had high fever and rashes on his body over a week after he was admitted at the hospital.

He noted that the blood sample of the patient has been taken to a laboratory in Lagos state for tests, with the result expected to come out by Tuesday.

He said that the outcome of the laboratory result would determine further actions, adding that, the state government had provided the hospital management with protective equipment for its team of medical personnel attending to the patient.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of ABUTH, Bilyaminu Umar, corroborated the position of Dogo.

“Yes, there was a case of a suspected Ebola patient. He is with the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria and will be placed on isolation. I am out of town, but will confirm details on my return from a trip,” he said.
