The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Tuesday in Abuja decorated nine newly promoted senior officers.

The decorated officers included the Force spokesman, Frank Mba, and one AIG, Grace Okudo. Mba was decorated as Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The force spokesman and other eight officers were among 210 senior officers promoted by the Police Service Commission on June 10.

Abubakar described the newly decorated officers as men who had worked very hard and deserved to be elevated.

He stressed that promotion was one area of incentive to encourage officers and men to do more in service to their fatherland.

The IG, however, said that it also come with added challenges and responsibilities, charging them to live up to expectation.

“We expect you to provide leadership in all aspects of your action.

“We shall not hesitate to do otherwise (demote you) when you abandon those responsibilities that you are supposed to discharge and your behaviour became negative,” he said.

Abubakar commended Mba, noting that though the spokesman was not a journalist, but he (Mba) discharge his duty professionally as one and projected the police positively.

“The force public relations officer came in almost three years ago and demonstrated that he could perfect professionalism.

“Though not a journalist, he has changed the face of police image for better today. It is so glaring; I believe that many people will be wondering, his promotion came as a way of his commitment, dedication and act of loyalty to the force and the country.

“He is a young man who has all it takes to do his best for the country, the force, his leaders and friends.

“I am particularly happy that today, he is wearing a new rank,” he said.

Mba enlisted into the police in 1992 as a Cadet Inspector. He was promoted to ASP in 1999, DSP in 2006 and CSP in 2012.
