The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musliu Obanikoro on Thursday, denied an allegation that he was involved in an electoral malpractice ahead of Ekiti governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress had alleged that the minister was seen moving ballot papers to Akure ahead of the election due on 21 June.

Obanikoro told journalists on the sideline of the inauguration of the Barracks Health Committee (BHC) , an Armed Forces Programme on AIDS Control (AFPAC).

“I’m the Minister of State for Defence, I’m not in charge of electoral matters.

“Sometimes I think we take our politics too far, for anybody to make such a reckless allegation against my person, I think it is politics carried too far.

“As you can see, I am here today performing my official responsibility, if I have anything to do outside Abuja, I don’t need the permission of APC to move around the country,” he said.

He noted that: “I am a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, my focus is on how to deliver the president’s agenda and not to play politics with everything.

“On Monday I will be in Kaduna, if there is an election in Kaduna, will APC tell me not to go and perform my responsibility,” he asked.

Obanikoro said only leaders who were shortsighted would play politics with everything.
