As the nation marks Democracy Day today, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Wednesday, directed officers in special units to be on alert.

A statement issued in Abuja by the Spokesman of the force, CSP Frank Mba, said Abubakar gave the directive after a meeting with the force management team.

“He directed zonal AIGs, CPs in charge of intelligence, command commissioners, officers in charge of counter-terrorism, special and protection squads, and mobile police to ensure effective and strategic deployment of personnel,” the statement read.

“He also assured Nigerians that measures had been put in place to ensure hitch-free celebration, adding that the police and other security agencies were working to ensure that.”
