Two policemen have been killed in an auto crash while conveying some suspects to Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The officers, simply identified as Inspector Pastor and Corporal Nuru attached to the State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos Command, died after their vehicle somersaulted along Shagamu Expressway in Ogun State, close to Lagos.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the accident occurred during a squabble between the officers and the suspects while returning from an operation in Kaduna State.
The suspects were arrested in the operation but reportedly escaped after the accident.
It was gathered that four policemen were involved in the accident. While the two men died on the spot, the other two officers sustained severe injuries and are still in critical condition.
Sources at the police command said the policemen left Lagos to Kaduna to arrest the suspects accused of car snatching in Lagos.
But on their return trip to Lagos, when they got to Shagamu, fight broke out between the suspects and the policemen which led to the accident.
When P.M.NEWS visited the police command at Ikeja on Wednesday, some police officers expressed shock over what happened.
However, efforts to speak with the Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP Ngozi Braide on the incident proved abortive because her phone was switched off.
