The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it recorded 41.05 per cent success rate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2013.

Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, Lagos State Commissioner for Education, disclosed this at the 2014 ministerial briefing in Lagos.

The commissioner said that the students who made up the percentage had credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English.

Oladunjoye said that students with five credits including English and Mathematics, had risen from 18.41 per cent in 2009 to 41.05 per cent in 2013.

She attributed the improved performance to the Lagos Eko Secondary Education Project, a World Bank funded project in 667 Junior and Senior Secondary Schools.

The commissioner said the state government had paid more than N500 million as fees for 47,000 students sitting for the 2014 examination.
