As part of on-going measures geared towards boosting the morale of police officers and rewarding those who have excelled in their assigned roles, particularly in the area of combating crimes and criminality in Nigeria, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar has ordered the release of the promotion of 24,118 officers.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, CSP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, said the promotion which ranks as the highest number of Police Officers promoted in one fell swoop in the history of the Force and cuts across different ranks is as follows: i. One Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector General of Police;

ii. Six Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police;

iii. Seven Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners of Police;

iv. Seven Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police;

v. 242 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents of Police;

vi. 424 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police;

vii.  715 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police;

ix. 55 Senior Inspectors to Principal Inspectors;

x. 525 Inspectors to Senior Inspectors;

xi. 2,671 Sergeants to Inspectors;

Meanwhile, Abubakar, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, charged them to see their elevation as a mark of additional responsibility and a call to rededicate themselves to their professional callings.

He equally enjoined them to uphold ethical standards and the fundamental human rights of Nigerians in the discharge of their duties at all times.
