Two persons have been killed by stray bullets from a team of Police officers on patrol around the central market,Ilorin, Kwara State in central Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS gathered that at about 11:40a.m. on Monday 23 December, a Police patrol van was pursuing the driver of a car. Because the driver did not stop, the policemen shot into the air, with a view to forcing him to stop.
A witness said the victims were walking by the Ilorin Central Mosque before they were hit by the police stray bullets.
The incident led to the immediate closure of the UBA bank nearby while the area was also deserted as people scampered into safety.
The trigger-happy policemen disappeared from the scene immediately.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover, confirmed the incident,adding that the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary.
The men have not been identified.
Oshodi-Glover gave an assurance that the matter would be investigated.
