Kenneth Gyang, Fathia Balogun, Others Shine At 2013 BON Awards

Plateau State-born young filmmaker, Kenneth Gyang has recorded the biggest win at the recently concluded Best of Nollywood Awards as his flick Confusion Na Wa swept four awards.

At the glamorous award ceremony held on 5 December at The Dome, Asaba, Delta State, Gyang’s Confusion Na Wa scooped the awards for Best Screen Play, Movie With Best Production Design, Director of The Year and the highly-coveted Movie of The Year.

OC Ukeje won the Best Actor in a Leading Role (English) with Alan Poza, while Omoni Oboli picked the Best Actress in a Leading Role (English) in Brother’s Keeper.

Mike Ezuruonye’s A-list delivery in Dayo Amusa’s Unforgivable fetched him the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba) while Joke Muyiwa got the Best Actress in a Leading Role (Yoruba) for her role in Ayitale. Fathia Balogun also clinched the Best Actress in A Supporting Role (Yoruba) for Irugbin, with Odunlade Adekola winning the Best Actor in A Supporting Role (Yoruba) for Aja.

Other winners are Rita Dominic —Best Actress in a Supporting Role (English) with Finding Mercy; Alex Ekubo-Best Actor in a supporting role (English) for Weekend Getaway; Kola Ajeyemi—Most Promising Act of The Year (Male) for Were Meta; Sylva Oluchy—Most Promising Act of The Year (Female) for Bended Knees; Asimiyu Uthman Omokunmi-Best Child Actor (Male) with Ifa Iwa and Oyinda  Lanpejo-Best Child Actor (Female) for Finding Mercy.

Laitan Ogungbele and Charles Billion Pius were the Revelation of The Year (Female and Male respectively). Ibironke Ashaolu and Wale Akanbi got the award for Best Kiss in a Movie for passionately locked tongues in Dayo Amusa’s Unforgivable.

Other awards as decided by the jury are Best Comedy of The Year (Nanny); Movie With Best Social Message (Journey To Self); Onga Best Use of Nigerian Food In A Movie (In Her Shoes); Best Short Movie (Epitaph); Movie With Best Sound (Cobweb) and Best Use of Costume (Twin Sword).

Veterans thespians Pete Edochie and Lanre ‘Iya Awero’ Hassan were both honoured with BON Special Recognition Awards. “The journey here has not been entirely hitch-free. Indeed, we are like a newborn baby who has had to go through the whole process of growing up, from crawling to taking the first tentative steps and actual walking.

“Today, after five years, we have come of age and every passing year, we get better…In spite of the challenges, we at Best of Nollywood Awards continue to strive to ensure that those who are labouring and sweating whether in front of the screen or behind it do not go without being honoured in their lifetime,” said Seun Oloketuyi, Executive Producer, BON Awards.

The award ceremony was hosted by the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, and anchored by popular comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka 1st and radio personality, Wana Udobang.
