W/Cup Draw Not Fixed —FIFA

A highly suggestive video and some suspiciously prophetic tweets have FIFA defending itself from accusations that the World Cup draw was rigged.

Conspiracy rumours quickly gained traction after a video of Friday’s ceremony made the rounds online showing FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke engaging in what appears to be some sleight of hand when selecting teams into their respective groups.

The X-Files theme song plays in the background while the Spanish-language clip shows time and again how Falcke never opens the balls – each containing a slip of paper with one of the 32 participating nations – in front of TV cameras, but rather hides his hands behind the podium before unveiling the paper with its respective team name. On the other hand, co-host Fernanda Lima, tasked with opening the balls containing the positions for each country in their groups, always does so in full view.

What’s also suspicious is how Lima’s papers roll back up as she releases them, as if packed into a tight ball, while Valcke’s remain perfectly intact, perhaps sitting open on the podium all along.

The video was damning enough to convince FIFA to publicly deny that any shenanigans were involved.

“All the preparations for the draw were monitored and validated by three representatives of Ernst and Young,” FIFA said in a statement, via Marca of Spain.

“During the draw there were at least seven cameras in different locations focused on FIFA’s secretary general. Two in front, one on the right and another on the left, one behind him and another directly on top of his head.”
