Olamide Leads With Nine Headies’ Nominations

Things are definitely working right for fast rising rap star, Olamide. As seen on the 2013 Headies nominees’ list released late last week, Olamide was in the front row as he gleaned nine nominations, the highest ever received in the history of the awards show.

According to the awards’ organisers, Smooth Promotions, Olamide has been nominated in the ‘Best Rap Album’, ‘Best Rap Single’, ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Lyricist On The Roll’, ‘Album of The Year’ and the most sought after award, ‘Artiste of the Year’.

His hit track, Durosoke also earned beat maker, Pheelz, nomination in the ‘Producer of The Year’ category, and also ‘Best Collabo’ nomination with Phyno for Ghost Mode.

Trailing him with seven nominations was Igbo-lingo rapper Phyno. The rapper who is yet to release a debut has flooded the music scene with multiple hits including the heavy duet Ghost Mode with Olamide.

Following closely are pop singers Davido and Iyanya with five nominations apiece.

Expectedly, Sean Tizzle’s Sho le makes the most famous and rewarding category, ‘Next Rated’. He will be slogging it out with Dammy Krane, Burna Boy, Seyi Shay, and Phyno.

Songstress and Glo ambassador Waje who released her long-awaited debut Words Aren’t Just Enough leads the female pack with five nominations.

She will notably be contending with Seyi Shay, Niyola, Nikki Laoye and Zaina for the ‘Best Vocal Performance (Female)’.

A new category ‘Best Alternative Song’ has been added to this year’s list with the likes of Blackmagic, Ajebutter 22, Jaywon and Show Dem Camp receiving nods.

Organisers of the awards, Smooth Promotions have announced that veteran musician Onyeka Onwenu will be inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame’, as a ‘Special Recognition For Excellence And Outstanding Impact To The Entertainment Industry’. The 2013 edition of the awards show will hold on Boxing day, 26 December at Lagos Oriental Hotel.
