Cycling: WACU Promises Quality Programmes

Mohammed Sheriff, the President, West African Cycling Union, WACU, said that the union would promote cycling in the West African region by initiating quality programmes.

Sheriff stated this at the flag off ceremony of the 3rd ECOWAS Cycling Tour held at the National Stadium, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that WACU was launched during the flag off ceremony.

He said that the launching of the union was a milestone achievement and it would go a long way to strengthen the base of cycling in the region.

“I promise wholeheartedly to do whatever I can to uphold the principles outlined in our constitution.The improvement of West African cycling is paramount and it is key to fulfilling all objectives outlined,” he said.

The WACU president added that the union would be the central point of communication from all West Africa federations with two temporary secretariats in Ghana and Nigeria.

Giandomenico Massari, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the tour, while commending the organisers, called for discipline on the parts of the cyclists.

He said that the ECOWAS Cycling Tour was the only tour in the sport that cut across countries.
