Oyinlola: now expelled from PDP

Mr Victor Kwom, National Legal Adviser of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the party, was still studying the Appeal Court judgment ordering Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s reinstatement as the party’s national secretary.

Kwom, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, added that the party would react at the appropriate time.

Also reacting to the judgment, the party`s National Secretary Prof Wale Oladipo, stressed that he would remain in office pending when the Supreme Court takes final decision on the issue.

He said that the appellants from Ogun state were already heading to the Supreme Court, adding that he would only quit on the orders of the apex court.

“The respondents from Ogun state, who took Oyinlola to court in the first place, I believe are now in the process of going to the Supreme Court, which is the final court.

“As to my position, nothing has changed. I remain the National Secretary of the party. Supreme Court will have the final say. No cause for alarm”, he said.

It would be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati on Jan. 11, nullified Oyinlola`s election as PDP National Secretary.

The court ruling was based on a suit filed by the Chairman of Ogun State chapter of the party, Mr Adebayo Dayo.

Dayo in his suit, argued that Oyinola emerged as the PDP national secretary through a “kangaroo process’’.

He maintained that since the Federal High Court in Lagos nullified the South-west Zonal congress which produced Oyinlola, his continued stay in office was illegal, null and void.

This, he further argued, was especially so since his candidacy had earlier been voided.
