Mechanic Faces Trial Over Theft At Ikeja Shopping Mall

A 33-year old mechanic, Abimbola Oluwole, who allegedly stole a Blackberry Torch and an I-phone, worth N125,000 from a shopper at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Oluwole, a resident of 17, Oke Ira Powerline, Agege, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences at 5.40 p.m., on 15 October at the shopping mall at Alausa, Ikeja.

He said that the accused stole a Blackberry Torch and an I-phone handset with a total value of N125, 000, property of Mrs Oge Onyebuchi.

“The accused removed the phones from the complainant’s handbag, while she was walking towards the car park.

“He was, however, seen by the complainant’s driver and security officials at the car park,” the prosecutor said.

Okoi said that the offences committed contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 provides that any person who steals is guilty of a felony and is liable, if no other punishment is provided, to three years imprisonment

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Dan-Oni adjourned the case till 3 December for mention.
