Salawe Wants More Tourney For Lagos Inter Clubs

Powerlifter Akeem Salawe has called on Lagos State Para Sports Association to organise more competitions to keep the athletes fit ahead of next year’s National Sports Festival scheduled for Calabar, Cross River State.

Salawe said this after he emerged champion in the 150kg event of the just concluded Lagos State Inter-clubs Paralifting Championship.

The two days event was held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. Salawe, who won gold medal in the 185kg category at the 2006 Gateway Games Sports Festival in Ogun State, said Lagos can be a dominant force in powerlifting if the state organises regular competitions which will bring the best out of the powerlifters.

“I am happy to win the gold medal in the185kg of this inter-clubs competition. This victory is a clear indication that in future tournament I can win more medals especially in the next sports festival. I want to implore the association to organise more tournaments for us as part of our preparation for the fiesta in Calabar,” he said.

In the 52kg, Kazeem Abass won a gold medal, while Segun Adeshina and Seun Akinde settled for silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the female category, Kafilat Moruf emerged winner in the 52kg, Sekinat Abolaji was second, while Funmi Falana came third.

In the female 67.5kg, Yemisi Adewole, emerged winner. Turayo Ajetumobi won silver, while Kemi Adegbesan won bronze medal.
