Ambassador Ashiru: Foreign Minister

Nigerians in Canada who visited the Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa Canada 23 August were disappointed when they got there to find to their chagrin the embassy was shut.

A notice at the gate said the embassy officials have gone on ‘consular duties’ and will not be opened until 27 August.

The Nigerians, most of them students, had been given the appointment to come to the embassy to get their passports renewed.

One Nigerian said he spent close to $1,000 to get to Ottawa from Calgary. One said he was going to waste $200 for coming to the embassy and not being able to fulfil his mission.
