Ankara Boi: Faces eviction

Following last week’s eviction drama of 17-year-old talented Clinton and Blair Roberts, better known as DNA Twins from the ongoing hit X Factor, the singing reality TV show sponsored by the national telecoms operator, Globacom, another fans’ favourite, Ankara Boi, has become the latest casualty of the show.

After the public had their say and the judges, Ankara Boi became clearly this week’s unpopular act.

He alongside singing trio-Symphony, found themselves up for the axe as the least two popular contestants this week via the public votes. Their fate was left in the hands of the judges who decided who stays and who exits the competition.

Ankara Boi was shown the door when he could only muster Onyeka Onwenu’s vote and Symphony got the nod of two other judges: Reggie Rockstone and M.I respectively.

“At this stage, I am so terrified to axe anyone as all the remaining contestants are worthy of the prize. But I will have to reiterate my earlier stand that whoever must be seen to have won this competition must have that X factor. Ankara Boi seems to have given up quickly with his emotion and for that, Symphony will have my vote,” said the star rapper to seal the fate of Ankara Boi.

In her own comment before voting, Onwenu said Ankara Boi has been so consistent and brings his inner mind into all his performances. “He is a hugely talented guy that has a lot of positive promises ahead of him,” she said.

Rockstone said apart from being his compatriots, the Symphony boys have really impressed him a lot. He gave a thumbs up to endorse their stay in the competition.

Speaking after the show, Ankara Boi said: “I really wanted to win and I’m sad to be going home. But it was a wonderful opportunity, and I can assure you that you will be hearing a lot from me. It has been an amazing time for me. I have made new friends and learnt a lot from the show,” Ankara Boi told Toolz, show host.

The gangling lad is the show’s third evictee. His exit is coming on the heel of DNA Twins and another group, Smoothboiz, who was the first casualty of the show. And with this eviction, six survivors including two Ghanaians: Eshum and Symphony; Princess Pat; DJ Switch; Pheel; and Vicky are left in the race for the record breaking prize money of $150,000 and a juicy recording contract with Sony Music International for the eventual winner of the show.

Later on, Ankara Boi came back on stage for his farewell performance and the boy pulled an emotional performance that saw him hold back tears until his co-contestants came on stage to console and cheer him up.

Afro-Soul diva, Waje, backed by a solo guitarist, was the guest act. She serenaded the live audience and millions of X Factor fans who tuned in for the show.
