Legacy, Fashola Babes Shine In Volleyball

It was a celebration galore for the fans of Legacy Volleyball Club after their team defeated Unity Volleyball Club 2-0 to win the final of Lagos Inter Clubs Volleyball Competition.

The final was played at the Volleyball Court, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere,Lagos at the weekend.

The match which was watched by hundred of spectators saw Legacy Volleyball Club dominating the game.

Unity Boys could not curtail their opponents’ onslaught throughout the encounter before the referee blew the final whistle.

Speaking after the match, Legacy Coach, Ikechukwu Dominic said his team won the game because they had good preparation. He said the victory was well deserved and boasted that his team will defend the title in the next edition of the quarterly competition.

“It was a sweet victory for us. I think our opponents tried their best but we were more better in all department of the game,” he said.

In the final of the female’s category,Fashola Babes thrashed Team Lagos 3-0 to win the championship.

Fashola Babes were a delight to watch as they overpowered their opponents, Team Lagos from the blast of whistle till the end of the match.

Team Lagos, who won bronze medal in Volleyball event at the last year National Sports Festival looked ordinary on the court as Fashola Babes taught them how to play good Volleyball.

Reacting to the victory, coach of Fashola Babes, Deji Fayemi said he was not surprised that his team won the match. He said his girls were composed and focused, which earned them the sweet victory.

“We came, saw and conquared.We actually deserved the victory because my girls were in their best form of their game,” he said.

Commenting on the championship, Chairman Lagos State Volleyball Association, Martins Owolabi expressed satisfaction with the organisation and standard of play by all the participating teams.

He said the tournament would  help the coaches to prepare Team Lagos for the zonal elimination championship for the Youth Games scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State later this month.

“We are very grateful to God for this competition.We are happy that this competition will  help us to discover fresh talents and we are planning to call them for camp for the zonal elimination of the Youth Games,” he said.

The eight teams (male and feamle  categories) competition was organised by Lagos State Volleyball Association with facilitating resources from  Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development and the Office of Grassroots Sports Development.
