Lawyer Sent To Prison Over Forgery

The police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Island, southwest Nigeria, have arrested and arraigned a legal practitioner, Charles Okhare, 41, for allegedly conspiring with others now at large to forge the signature of Daniel Bolodeoku’s property document without authorization.

He was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court on a three count charge of felony to wit, forgery.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Marcus Okon,  told the court in the charge sheet that the accused was arrested following a written complain’s by Daniel Bolodeoku that the accused on 18 December, 2009 fraudulently forged his signature at the Lagos State Land Registry, Alausa, Ikeja, to enable him obtain his property at Adeniyi Jones area of Ikeja, Lagos.

He further stated that he never authorized the accused to alter his documents for any reasons.

When the accused was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate Ali Balogun admitted him on bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in the like sum who must produce six months bank statement.

The magistrate adjourned the matter till 15 August 2013 for mention.

The defendant was however moved to Ikoyi Prisons pending when he will fulfill the bail condition.
