Three persons, all males from the same parents have died in a motorcycle crash, in Ilorin, the capital of the Nigerian central state of Kwara.

The men were identified as Zakari Yau, Wasiu Yau and Ganiyu Yau.

Their motorcycle on Thursday 18 July rammed into a trailer with registration number DDM 15 XA and fully loaded with cement, at Oyun Bridge, along Sango Road, Ilorin.

According to the state Sector Commander of th Federal Road Safety Commission, Mrs. Mary Wakama, two of them died on the spot while the third died on the way to hospital.

A witness of the accident, Ibrahim Tajudeen, said the motorcycle had a head on collision with an oncoming truck, after overtaking a car. The tragedy made some aggrieved residents of the area set the truck ablaze.

The FRSC boss said: “We were called in for a rescue operation. Our men promptly responded and did the rescue operation quite well. Three people were on one okada(motor-cycle), they ran into a moving trailer. Two died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital.

“They are all males from the same parents. They were run-over by the trailer and they all died. Their bodies were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH. In rage, people around set the trailer ablaze but the driver escaped from being lynched.”

Lamenting, Mrs. Wakama said: “Okada people are not careful in riding. Our impatience is usually the cause of such unfortunate incidents. A minute can make the difference and would have made the difference in this particular incident.

As a result of the accident, the on-going examinations by students of the Kwara State Polytechnic were disrupted as vehicular movement in the area was disrupted by aggrieved residents.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Mallam Abdulkadir Yunus, disclosed that the authorities of the institution have shifted the examinations scheduled to hold today till Monday 5 August due to security reasons.

He, however, said that students at the Institute of Technology of the polytechnic are not affected by the shift.
