Officials of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency Monday abandoned their duty posts Monday to protest an attack on a colleague by a policeman.

The EDSTMA officials expressed their displeasure that their boss, Nosa Aideyan even allowed the policeman to take their colleague away after the attack.

One of them who did not want his name in print, said the policeman who was in plain clothes, beat the traffic light at Okhoro junction of New Lagos Road and was chased by the traffic officials of the agency stationed at the junction.

“The policeman beat the traffic light. Our men caught him along New Lagos Road and he did not identify himself. He just brought out a stick and hit one of them on the head. Our Oga was there. He did not do anything, which was why we left our beat. The policeman took our staff away. Everybody was annoyed,” said the official.

When called on phone, the EDSTMA Head of Operations, confirmed the report but said he responded swiftly, adding that he was at the hospital where the injured staff was taken to for treatment.

“We were surprised when the man hit my man on the head. I am at the hospital now,” he said.

When contacted, Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Moses Eguavoen said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
