Major sponsor of the Nigerian national football teams, Globacom, has commended the performance of the home-based Super Eagles who defeated their Ivorian counterparts 4-1 in the CHAN 2014 first leg final round qualifier on Saturday in Kaduna.

Nigeria edged closer to the CHAN finals slated for South Africa next January after humbling fellow West Africans, Ivory Coast. However, it will not be over until the second leg is played in Abidjan on 20 July.

“We are impressed that the players plying their trade in the domestic league were able to demonstrate their superiority over the Ivoirians which further confirmed that our strong commitment to the development of the Glo professional league is a step in the right direction,” Globacom said in a statement in Lagos.

“The fact that the home-based Eagles also showed their proficiency in goal scoring to satisfy the yearnings of Nigerian football fans means a credible new beginning for football in the country at the highest level,” the statement added.
