Lagos To Recruit Coaches For Sports Associations

In its bid to consolidate on the success recorded at the last National Sports Festival, Lagos State Government is set to recruit qualified coaches to the 36 sports associations in the state.

A statement from the state’s Sports Council signed by its Public Relations Officer, PRO, Bashir Agunloye, says interested coaches can apply through the council while they will be engaged on contract with the aim of nurturing budding talents for the state.

The coaches will work in sports like athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, darts, deaf sports, fives, football, golf, gymnastics, handball and, hockey.

Others are judo, karate, kick-boxing, rowing & yatching, rugby, scrabble, special sports, shooting, swimming, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, traditional sports, triathlon, tug-of-war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and kung-fu.

Agunloye said the coaches are expected to help the 36 sports associations in the state to develop sports at the grassroots level especially in schools across the state. He added that they are expected to hunt, train and nurture talents through a series of sports development activities to be organised by the sports associations as well as to assist the state to consolidate on its success at the last Eko 2012.

It would be recalled that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola gave cash prizes ranging from N250, 000 to N150, 000 to medal winners, while athletes were also told to forward their interests on employment, scholarship or vocational training for considerations, with relevant and valid credentials to the Sports Council.
