An indication that Governor Ibukunle Amosun may have changed his mind about merging Tai Solarin University of Education, Nigeria’s first autonomous education university, with the older Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, came today with the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the school.

The new Vice Chancellor is the Acting Commissioner for Health in Osun state, Prof. Oluyemisi Oluremi Obilade, the third to occupy the post.

She replaces the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Segun
Awonusi.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the state governemnt, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, the appointment takes immediate effect.

Prof. Obilade is a seasoned educationist and Professor of Education in the Department of Continuing Education, Faculty of Education of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

She has a Doctorate degree in Education from the Obafemi Awolowo University , she also holds Executive Business Education Certificates of the Havard Business School, Harvard University , United States of America as well as that of Judge Business School , Cambridge University , United Kingdom .

Prof. Obilade, who has teaching experience spanning over 30 years, was at various times Commissioner for Education and Acting Commissioner for Health in Osun State.

She belongs to various professional bodies including the Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Nigeria Society of Educators (NSE), Adult Education and Poverty Reduction Network, United Kingdom, among others.

Professor Obilade is a Fellow of H.E.R.S Academy, Cape Town, South Africa and International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation, Washington DC, United States of America.

She is married to Professor T.O. Obilade and they have four children.

Until the appointment, Governor Amosun had kept the people of the state guessing on his plans for the school, located in Ijagun-Ijebu Ode, after his initial plan ran into political storm in the state.
