A call has gone to the sports authority to give recognition to traditional sports in the country.

The athletes competing in the traditional sports events of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival, who spoke with P.M.News said the government has a lot to do to help the sports gain popularity.

At the venue of Dambe events, Sambo Salisu of Gombe State, took a swipe at the National Sports Commission, NSC for relegating the sport to the back ground. He noted that there is little or no attention for Dambe, hence the poor attention it is getting.

According to him, “The NSC should be blamed for the state of Dambe in the country. We are not enjoying any privilege from the authorities at all. There is no competition for us. If only we can be supported, the sport will develope more than this.”
