The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday blamed parents for the mass redeployment of corps members from Kano State.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that 700 out of the 2,129 corps members had re-deployed since the end of the orientation exercise on 27 November.
According to him, most of those who relocated to other states were compelled by their parents to seek redeployment.
“Majority of the corps members when we asked them why they wanted to leave Kano, they told us that their parents ordered them to leave the state.”
He said the security situation in the state had improved compared to what it was “some few months back”.
Yakasai said that 300 corps members had also relocated to Kano State from other states after the orientation course.
On rejection of corps members by employers, the coordinator said the number of rejection cases was negligible, as most of them were posted to secondary schools.
The coordinator noted that the state requires the services of more corps members in view of its size and population.
“The number of corps members posted to the state is grossly inadequate in view of the number of local government areas in the state.”
He commended the state government for the continued support given the directorate.
