Olanrewaju Dreams Wheelchair Gold

One thing that Olajumoke Olanrewaju wants is to claim a gold medal in the wheelchair athletics event of the ongoing National Sports Festival, NSF holding in Lagos.

The 26 years old female athlete said her aim is to clinch a gold medal in the female athletics wheelchair event.

Olanrewaju, who would be flying the flag of Team Delta disclosed that she is looking forward to clinching the gold medal in the athletics event, which started on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.

She said having prepared very well ahead of her debut in the para-athletics event of the NSF, she is already dreaming of how to celebrate her triumph, when she hits the tracks.

“It is the gold medal that I’m thinking of, I have prepared for the task ahead of me and I won’t relent until I win the gold medal in my event”, she said.

The para-athlete, who claimed she lost her legs to polio at a tender age, said she is leaving nothing to chance to ensure she wins the gold medal.

She is also unperturbed about her disability because she feels there is always ability in disability.

“I don’t see myself as a disable person but as an able bodied athlete. So, I don’t like people looking at me with pity”.

She also advised the relevant authorities to provide disabled athletes with modern wheelchairs, saying it would help to better their timing in international championships.

“The wheelchair  that most of us use are outdated, but I believe with the latest wheelchairs, we can learn how to use it and it would help us perform well in the near future”.
