Eko 2012 Winners For Rio Olympics

The Technical and Performance Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Deji Aliu has hinted that the AFN is on the lookout for outstanding athletes in the athletics event of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos State tagged Eko 2012.

The athletics events have started today at the tartan track of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. According to Aliu, the AFN plans to discover athletes that will represent Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games billed for Brazil.

He said the poor outing of Nigeria contingents to the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games was a wake up call for the federation, hence the need to start early preparation for the next Olympics now.

“We have a scouting team on ground at the ongoing Eko 2012 and their mission is to identify promising athletes that can represent the country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” said Aliu.
