There was pandemonium at the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, southsouth Nigeria, at about 8 a.m. Tuesday when an unidentified middle-age man bearing Total/ Pass identity card allegedly jumped to death from the 7th floor of a building.
The Federal Secretariat is located on the Port Harcourt /Aba Expressway.
It was not clear why the man committed suicide.
Most of the workers there, including the Immigration, Customs, NAFDAC, declined to speak about the incident, pleading that as civil servants they were not permitted to speak with the press.
The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Ben Ugwuegbulem, said: “We heard about the incident from you guys ( journalists) but I am waiting for the a full briefing from the Divisional Police Officer covering that area to brief the Command about what actually happened. I don’t have details.”
