S/Leone Overtake Nigeria On FIFA Ranking

Sierra Leone senior national team have overtaken the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the latest FIFA ranking released early Wednesday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Nigeria maintained her 58th position in the world and 11 in Africa- a step downward as against her number 10th last month, while Sierra Leone, who were ranked 65th in the world and 13th in Africa last month, improved considerably to number 57th in the world and 10th in Africa this month.

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire still maintained their number 16th in the world, and first in Africa, as the continent failed to produce any team worthy of being ranked among the Top 10 in the world. Ghana’s Black Stars are second best team in Africa, but are on number 32nd in the world.

Algeria also maintained their third position in Africa and 34th in the world. Libya are Africa’s fourth best team and 38th in the world, Eagles of Mali occupy 5th position in Africa and 39th in the world, while African champions, Zambia are 9th in Africa and 44th in the world.

Spain continue to lead on FIFA ranking, followed by Germany. England and Uruguay occupy third and fourth positions respectively, while Portugal are fifth. Brazil lost two points on FIFA ranking and occupy number 13th in the world.

Meanwhile, home-based Super Eagles continued with their preparation in Abuja ahead of their friendly match against Niger Republic on 15 August in Niamey.

Reports say that all the invited players are in camp sweating it out in training with Chief Coach Stephen Keshi drilling the squad ahead of the friendly, which is part of the build up for 8 September African Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia in Monrovia.
