Stocks go higher in Nigeria

A total of 205.97 million shares worth N1.6 billion were traded in 3,792 deals on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

This was against 209.14 million shares valued at N1.64 billion exchanged in 3,499 deals on Monday.

The All-Share Index, which opened at 21,571.67, appreciated by 118.87 points or 0.55 per cent to close at 21,690.54.

Similarly, the market capitalisation grew by N38 billion or 0.55 per cent to close at N 6.924 trillion from the N6.886 trillion recorded on Monday.

NewGold recorded the highest price gain of N45 to close at N2, 558 per unit.

7UP followed with N1.91 to close at N40.22per share, while Oando gained 59k to close at N14.70 per share.

Nigeria Breweries appreciated by 54k to close at N101.77 per share, while Forte Oil rose by 42k to close at N11.41 per share.

On the other hand, NAHCO led the losers’ chart with a loss of 20k to close at N5.80 per share.

Presco trailed with 17k to close at N14.56 per share, while Eterna Oil lost 15k to close at N2.86 per share.

Glaxosmithkline fell by 10k to close at N23 per share, while May&Baker dipped by 6k to close at N1.85 per share.

The banking sub-sector of the financial services sector remained the most active as investors exchanged 111.22 million shares worth N857.15 million in 1.943 deals.

Diamond Bank drove activities in the sector with 24.60 million shares worth N54.59 million traded in 72 deals.

FBN ranked second with 21.85 million shares worth 242.55 million exchanged in 576 deals.
