Man Jailed 3 Years For Assault

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 31-year old man, Oyedele Omotoye, to three years imprisonment for conspiring to damage an electric wire fence.

Omotoye, whose residential address is unknown, pleaded guilty on arraignment to a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful damage and assault.

The Magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga, in his ruling found the defendant guilty in all the three counts and sentenced him to three years imprisonment, without an option of a fine.

“After a careful examination of the facts given before me and the admission of the defendant to the charges, I hereby sentence him to three years imprisonment, one year for each of the three counts,” he said.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The prosecutor, ASP Felix Ifijen, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offence on June 16, at 5, Saheed Ola St., Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

He said that the defendant, at about 2 a.m., damaged an electric fence worth N100, 000 property of Mobolaji Abubakar, with intent to steal.

Ifijen said that the defendant assaulted the security man at the premises, Abbas Haruna, by biting him while struggling to run away.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed contravened Sections 171, 338 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
