Court Remands Pregnant Woman, Hubby Over Alleged Murder

A Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a pregnant woman, Precious Tochukwu, and her husband, Selekeme NewBeach, at Ikoyi Prisons over the alleged murder of a 60-year  old Lebanese.

Tochukwu, 23, and Selekeme, 26, are facing a two-count charge of murder and conspiracy.

The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Sergeant Aiyewunmi Ipiteikumoh, told the court that the duo had on February 6 killed a Lebanese, Mr. Habib Haschem.

Ipiteikumoh said that the accused strangled Haschem to death at about 8.30 p.m. in his hotel room at  72, Kofo Abayomi Avenue, Apapa.

He said that the accused also stabbed the deceased with a knife on the face.

He said that the couple collected the sum of N3.5 million from the deceased with a promise to wax an album for him.

Ipiteikumoh said that the accused killed Haschem following their inability to wax the album or refund the amount collected from him.

He said that the offences contravened sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Magistrate S.K. Matepo ordered that the couple be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons pending when the state Director of Public prosecutions would give a legal advice.

The case was adjourned till July 16.
